Mary's History with GCISD

STAFF – TEACHER AND COACH AT GHS

• Taught English at GHS 1985-1996

Mary wrote curriculum for new courses, piloted AP English Language and Composition class when it was added to course offerings in 1991, created World Literature elective when course offerings were expanded when we implemented the block scheduling in the mid 90’s.

•Coached the Cheerleaders 1986-1997

Mary took the cheer program to its first ever appearance at a national level cheer competition in 1989 at NCA Nationals. Under Mary as head Varsity coach, GHS teams were finalists 13 times, including the GHS JV winning Grapevine’s first national championship in 1992. She directed the creation of the first cheer booster club, and organized and directed over 100 pep rallies at GHS. The GHS Cheer program established a senior scholarship named after retired Coach Humphrey in 1998 - “Mary Humphrey Scholarship” which the organization still funds and honors today.

After resigning as full time teacher in 1996, she coached as a contracted employee and worked as a classroom substitute until 2011.

LEAD 2021 Steering Committee in 2010 – helping to create the 10-year strategic plan that resulted in Portrait of a Graduate and other innovative educational practices put into place in the district.
