GCISD Generations

Although Mary has spent a great deal of time and effort helping create the GCISD story of greatness, her family has always been her first priority.  She has been married to Steve Humphrey for 38 years, and they are very proud of their three grown children and bonus daughter who is married to their son. The family is deeply entrenched in GCISD and each has their own GCISD Story.

Steve's GCISD Story

Steve’s family moved to Grapevine as he began high school.  Even after graduating, Steve stayed engaged with the community, helping coach rec soccer teams and working with kids. Steve and Mary met while he was volunteering at a GHS student council event.  They got married and never considered raising their children anywhere but in GCISD.

Steve is a community “fix it” guy who continually does countless tasks which are never in the spotlight – which is the way he likes it.  He has spent his professional life helping direct the family business with his brother, GHS grad and the original Spirit Rustler, Randy Humphrey. Through Humphrey & Associates, Steve and Randy have been a part of establishing memorial scholarships to benefit GCISD students and working with our CTE program to build partnerships to help students interested in the building trades.

Mary and Steve share a passion for students.  While loving to work with and teach teenagers led Mary to her education career, Steve also gave a great deal of time working with teens. They both have dedicated countless hours volunteering with Young Life and helped re-establish Young Life in Grapevine-Colleyville in 2010.  They both have also volunteered at their churches in a variety of roles, including a 7-year stint of teaching and working with the high school students.

The Kids' GCISD Story

GCISD provided a world-class education to the three Humphrey children which launched them successfully to college and beyond.  They are the embodiment of our GCISD Vision – “Honor our Legacy.  Equip for the Future.  Achieve Excellence.” They each have a GCISD story of their own and here is a little glimpse into how GCISD equipped each of them for a successful future.

Hunter attended Timberline Elementary School, Cross Timbers Middle School, and graduated from Grapevine High School. His GCISD years taught him that persistence and practice pay. He participated in our award-winning band program for all seven years of his secondary education and continued to play his euphonium in the band in college.  Hunter earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in marketing and works as a payroll administrator.

Cody attended Timberline Elementary School, Cross Timbers Middle School, and graduated from Grapevine High School.  GCISD confirmed for Cody that setting goals and committing to a strong work ethic brings results.  His involvement with high school tennis, which included 4 trips to the regional level competition, and graduating in the top 20 set him up for success in earning a degree in electrical engineering with a math minor.  Today he works as a professionally certified electrical engineer, and with his Grapevine raised wife, they are raising their own children in our community where they will attend GCISD schools.

Samantha attended Timberline Elementary School, Cross Timbers Middle School, and graduated from Grapevine High School.  GCISD taught her to be a strong leader and to compete with grit and grace.  Her involvement as a high school cheerleader, a regional level track competitor, and four years as a class officer all culminated with her recognition as Miss GHS and a two-time G award honoree her senior year.  She has continued on beyond GCISD to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy and is now building a career  helping and healing people.
